Oklahoma’s prairies, woodlands, and rolling hills host a wide range of game species, including whitetail deer, mule deer, and Rio Grande turkeys. Feral hogs are also plentiful in certain regions, giving hunters year-round pursuit options. Elk populations have been re-established in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and surrounding areas, creating limited but exciting opportunities via controlled hunts. The state’s wildlife management areas are spread across diverse habitats, allowing hunters to choose the environment and species that best suit their goals.
Fishing in Oklahoma often focuses on the state’s major reservoirs, such as Grand Lake, Lake Texoma, and Lake Eufaula, all known for robust populations of bass, crappie, and catfish. Lake Texoma, in particular, is famous for its striped bass fishery, drawing anglers from multiple states. Additionally, Oklahoma’s many smaller lakes and rivers offer solid panfish and flathead catfish action. Outside of rod and gun sports, the state’s varied landscapes allow for camping, hiking, and wildlife watching, especially in areas like the Wichita Mountains, where bison and longhorn cattle roam freely.
