Vermont’s dense forests and hilly terrain are home to whitetail deer, black bear, and moose, though moose tags are allocated on a limited basis. The state’s rural character and traditional lifestyle help maintain a vibrant hunting culture, and the autumn deer season is a longstanding community event. Turkey hunting is also popular in the Green Mountain State, supported by healthy populations and scenic spring landscapes. Public hunting access is available in state forests and wildlife management areas scattered throughout Vermont’s countryside.
Fishing in Vermont often focuses on cold-water species like trout, salmon, and lake trout, particularly in Lake Champlain and the many mountain streams. Lake Champlain is also known for bass fishing, with tournaments regularly held during the summer. Vermont’s smaller lakes and rivers offer abundant opportunities for panfish and pike, appealing to family-friendly outings. Beyond the sporting aspect, Vermont’s picturesque villages, covered bridges, and rolling hills create a quintessential New England backdrop for hiking, biking, and leaf-peeping in the fall.
