New Jersey

Despite its urban reputation, New Jersey provides a surprising amount of hunting opportunities in its forests, wetlands, and agricultural fields. Whitetail deer thrive throughout the state, and turkey populations have rebounded significantly due to successful conservation programs. Waterfowl hunting, especially for Atlantic brant and various duck species along coastal marshes, remains a staple for many. Public lands and wildlife management areas dot both the northern highlands and the coastal plains, offering accessible options for local and visiting hunters.

Fishing in New Jersey is similarly diverse, with saltwater anglers targeting striped bass, bluefish, fluke, and black sea bass along the Atlantic coast. The state also boasts a robust party boat and charter fleet for those venturing offshore for tuna, mahi-mahi, or shark. Inland waters, such as the Delaware River and various lakes, support populations of smallmouth and largemouth bass, trout, and catfish. Beyond that, New Jersey’s Pine Barrens, beaches, and state parks afford residents plenty of space for hiking, camping, and wildlife observation, complementing the more populated metropolitan areas.
