New Hampshire’s vast forests and rugged mountains make it a haven for whitetail deer, black bear, and moose hunting. The state issues moose permits via a lottery system, and those who draw a tag can experience a challenging yet rewarding pursuit in remote woodlands. Bear populations have remained healthy, and the White Mountain National Forest and other state lands offer expansive areas for traditional big game hunts. New Hampshire also has flourishing turkey populations, allowing hunters a solid chance at bagging a gobbler in the spring.
Fishing in the Granite State is similarly attractive, featuring clear lakes, rivers, and streams that hold trout, bass, and landlocked salmon. Lake Winnipesaukee is a prime destination for smallmouth bass and lake trout, while the Connecticut River provides diverse angling from its headwaters down to the Massachusetts border. Fly anglers favor the upper reaches of rivers like the Pemigewasset or the Androscoggin for trout. Beyond the sporting side, New Hampshire’s outdoor allure includes the White Mountains, where the Appalachian Trail passes over Mount Washington, and scenic drives like the Kancamagus Highway offer breathtaking fall foliage.
