Michigan

Michigan’s two peninsulas provide abundant hunting opportunities, from whitetail deer in agricultural southern areas to black bear and elk in the northern forests. The state’s deer camp traditions run deep, particularly in the Upper Peninsula, where hunters gather for a rustic experience in remote cabins. Turkey, grouse, and waterfowl hunting are also popular, given Michigan’s varied landscapes of farmland, wetlands, and hardwood forests. Large tracts of public land, including state and national forests, make Michigan an appealing option for those who prefer do-it-yourself hunts.

Fishing in Michigan is legendary, thanks to its access to four of the five Great Lakes—Superior, Michigan, Huron, and Erie. Salmon, steelhead, lake trout, and walleye are prime targets for big-water anglers, while the state’s extensive river systems offer inland opportunities for trout, bass, and pike. The Au Sable and Pere Marquette Rivers are world-renowned for fly-fishing, drawing anglers from across the country. Beyond hook and bullet sports, Michigan is an outdoor paradise, offering everything from snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in winter to hiking and kayaking in summer, particularly along the scenic Upper Peninsula coastline.
