Maryland

Maryland’s varied landscapes—ranging from the Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian foothills—create multiple hunting environments. Whitetail and sika deer populations are a focal point, with sika deer being a unique, smaller species introduced from Asia that now thrive in marshy areas of the Eastern Shore. Waterfowl hunting is also a highlight, as Maryland’s coastal regions are part of the Atlantic Flyway, providing excellent opportunities for duck and goose shoots. Turkey and small game hunting round out the state’s offerings, often accessible in state forests and wildlife management areas.

For anglers, the Chesapeake Bay is a world-class destination, especially for striped bass (locally known as rockfish). Blue crabs are another iconic resource, though recreational crabbing has its own set of regulations. Inland, freshwater anglers can target trout in stocked streams, as well as bass and catfish in numerous lakes. The state also has saltwater fishing opportunities along the Atlantic coast in places like Ocean City. Beyond that, Maryland’s scenic areas include the Appalachian foothills in the west and numerous state parks in central and eastern regions, providing trails for hiking, biking, and nature watching.
